Suicide Intervention and Prevention Programme (SIPP) and Suicide Safety Plan Courses 2019
The NHS Tayside Suicide Prevention trainers have developed an interactive and flexible approach to suicide awareness and skills development; optimising learning opportunities for participants through attendance of either the Suicide Intervention and Prevention Programme (SIPP), the Suicide Safety Plan Course or both.
Suicide Intervention and Prevention Programme (SIPP)
Who is the training for?
- Anyone, including members of the public, who wants to be able to help someone who might be at risk of suicide
- All staff (NHS, Council, frontline services including Third Sector) who have patient/client/service user/public contact who have had no previous suicide awareness training or last training was more than three years ago
What will I learn?
- to recognise a person at risk of suicide
- to ask about suicide including the essential listening and questioning skills
- an awareness of the impact of attitudes to suicide
- an awareness of local services in suicide prevention
- an awareness of how to develop risk management skills with a person at risk of suicide
Suicide Safety Plan Courses
Who is the training for?
- All those mentioned above who have already attended previous suicide training such as SIPP course or ASIST training.
What will I learn?
- How to help someone who may be at risk of suicide (or self harm) to create their individual safety plan, using the Suicide? Help! App or template.
- Understand the skills required to engage and support someone to manage their suicidal thoughts.
- Demonstrate how to use the template to cover all of the areas required for a comprehensive Suicide Safety Plan.
Course dates 2019
The dates below are for both SIPP Courses and Suicide Safety Plan Courses.
SIPP courses run from 9am to 1.15pm. Suicide Safety Plan Courses run from 2pm to 4.30pm. For participants who wish to attend both courses a lunch break will be from 1.15-2pm (lunch is not provided).
Participants can book onto the SIPP course, the Safety Plan Training Course or both.
