General
- Always have a working smoke alarm
- Switch off and unplug appliances like TVs, washing machines and tumble driers that aren’t designed to be left switched on
- Don’t overload sockets
- Don’t run cables under carpets
- Be really careful if you’re smoking when you’re tired, or drinking alcohol
Kitchen
- Never walk away from the grill pan when it’s under the heat
- Always clean grill pans when you’ve been cooking fatty food
- Turn all pan handles to the side so they’re not spilled by accident
- Never dry tea towels or cloths on or above the cooker
- Never trail electrical flexes near cookers
- Never put any metal objects inside microwave ovens
Bedtime
- Close inside doors at night to stop a fire from spreading
- Turn heaters off and put up fireguards
- Don’t leave the washing machine on
- Check your cooker is turned off
- Put candles and cigarettes out properly
- Make sure exits are kept clear
- Keep door and window keys where everyone can find them
